Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom

“…this could very well be the most beautiful place in America.”

Patricia Schultz,
Author of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die

Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom is an area of unmatched beauty combined with rugged wilderness and pristine lakes. Visitors come to fish the streams and lakes, hike the gentle peaks, or simply view wildlife. In 2006, the National Geographic Society named this northeast corner of Vermont the most desirable place to visit in the country and the ninth most desirable place to visit in the world.

Outdoor adventures are just outside your door, from canoeing on Forest Lake and sailing on Big Averill to hiking the trails that crisscross the forest between. Or you can venture off the property to climb the nearby peaks of Averill and Brousseau mountains. Even more challenging hikes are a short drive away. And if you’ve brought your bike, canoe, or kayak with you, there is no shortage of places to explore.

Perfect Week

We have stayed here several times and love the peace, cleanliness, fabulous location with all sorts of outdoor activity available or simply sitting around and reading. Easy access to the Eastern Townships of Quebec which are well worth exploring on the rainy days. Very friendly as well. We will return.

Beautiful and Tranquil

I have been coming to Quimby with 3 other friends for many years now, and each time I go it is like visiting an old friend who welcomes me and allows me to get back to the nature I love. I start to relax the second I step into the cottage and think about hiking, kayaking the 2 close by lakes, or just doing some plain old porch sitting with a cup of tea. The calls of the Loons relaxes me instantly. The staff can not be any nicer or eager to make your stay a very nice one. I go to Quimby in early September, therefore, I bring food and drinks with me because during this season, the dining room is not open. I know from going there that many families and friends meet each other there for reunions, weddings, or other outdoor activities. The cottage is clean and neat and is supplied with towels and sheets. If you are staying in a cottage with a kitchen, basic utensils are provided. If you are looking for a nice country place to stay, Quimby Country Lodge & Cottages is a destination you should “check into”.

Never Disappoints

Cool nights, warm days, clean air. Perfect for deep relaxing and regaining a sense of wonder at the beauty of nature. We have been coming for many decades. Quimby’s had been an anchor in my life. Try it.

Looking Forward to Another Stay at Quimby Country

We stayed during the off-season, so the dining hall was not open and I cannot speak about the food.
The location was beautiful. The cottage was charming and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. We used the boats to go out on the lake and fish and followed a wooded path to another lake where more boats and paddle boards were available for use. We drove to another nearby lake to fish and caught northern pike and perch.

A Treasure in Northern Vermont

All the earlier rave reviews are accurate. This place is amazing. We were there for a weekend with a group of friends who have been camping/vacationing together since the late 1980s and this place was perfect for us. ‘Rustic’ is the word to describe the cottages, but ours was clean and the beds were comfortable. The service was incredible and everyone was friendly. The history of Quimby’s is interesting, and we enjoyed looking at photo albums from the early years at the turn of the last century. It is lovely that so many families come here year after year. We were first timers, but we plan to go back!
